Construction started on the little sloop FANO (HMCo. #1133) on this day in 1929. The model was intended to be something of a follow-on to the 12 1/2, but only two were ever built by HMCo. After HMCo. closed in 1945, the Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co. worked with A. Sidney Herreshoff to turn the design into the fiberglass Goldeneye. 📸 two views of the FANO model, currently on display in the HMM Model Room#Goldeneye #Fano #Sloop #HalfModel #Herreshoff #StudyModel #HandCarved #CaptainNat #WizardOfBristol #ASidneyHerreshoff #CapeCodShipbuilding ... Happy launch day sweet CLARA! This 35'3" LOA catyawl (HMCo. #402) was Captain Nat's personal cruising boat, built in 1887 to replace his earlier cat CONSUELO (HMCo. #400). Captain Nat sold CLARA in 1891, and as his family grew, moved on to owning and cruising aboard larger steam yachts instead of sailboats - his personal sailboats were day sailors after CLARA. All these years later, CLARA still survives, beautifully restored and on display at HMM in our Hall of Boats. 📸 Nathaniel Stebbins, courtesy Historic New England: buff.ly/3bHPVqm #CatYawl #HMCo #BristolRI #Herreshoff #Clara #WizardOfBristol #GlassPlateNegatives #NathanielStebbins #CaptainNat ...
