The Museum Turns 50

Bristol, Rhode Island, USA – The Herreshoff Marine Museum is thrilled to announce its Golden Jubilee year— the 50th anniversary of its founding. Throughout 2021, the Museum will celebrate five decades of preservation and interpretation of the world-renowned Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and its remarkable founders, brothers John and Nathanael (“Captain Nat”) Herreshoff. The Museum will commemorate this yearlong anniversary with programming and special events engaging Herreshoff boat owners around the world, America’s Cup veterans and enthusiasts, and the maritime heritage community at large.

Join the Celebration!

With over 2,000 boats built, and many still sailing (or motoring) today, so many of us have stories to tell about our experiences aboard Herreshoff boats and with Herreshoff people. Telling us your story is one way to participate in this year-long party, but we’ve also planned a great mix of events (both virtual and in-person), lectures and sailing events to get you in the Jubilee mood. Scroll down to see other ways to join the fun!

The Code Flag Lima Project

What started as a quarantine project to bring entertaining Herreshoff-related content to folks while they were stuck at home during the lockdown has evolved into an ongoing digital initiative through which we bring the museum to our audience in unique and compelling ways. And with other museums and collections increasing online access, we have new opportunities to add context to the stories we tell.
