We’ve put together memories from Nat’s time with the Museum below.

The Herreshoff Marine Museum is deeply saddened to share of the passing of Nathanael Greene Herreshoff III. Nat was not only a grandson and namesake of the legendary Nathanael G. Herreshoff, whose innovations shaped the history of American yachting, but also a dedicated steward of that legacy in his own right. He served as the Treasurer of the Museum at the time of its opening, alongside his tenure on the America's Cup Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Mary, his sons Halsey II and Karl, his extended family, and all who knew and loved him. Nat’s legacy, both as a member of the Herreshoff family and as a thoughtful, affable educator, will continue to inspire us.
At the heart of Nat’s connection to the Museum was his extraordinary gift for storytelling. Below, you’ll find video of his 2003 lecture, The Herreshoff Portraits, a vivid and personal exploration of the people and history that shaped his family’s legacy. We are proud to share it once more in his memory.
