Between 1893 and 1937 hundreds of Norwegian sailors crewed on the yachts that defended the America’s Cup. Many of these yachts were designed by N.G. Herreshoff and built at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company.
In the words of Olin Stephens “The Norwegians were obviously very good sailors, and as most of our America’s Cup defenders were crewed by Norwegians, one can say that it wasn’t the Americans who won the Cups……it was the Norwegians!”*
This is their story.
