Warming Up the Cylinders – #4

Warming up the cylinders as part of the start up process

When the engine came back from the Newport Exhibit we took it to the New England Wireless and Steam Museum to fire up the engine. (You must visit their annual September steam up!) Along the way we learned a lot about starting and running a steam engine — a lost art!

The engine running at speed after a century of sleep. All the innards were pristine, and once the external rust had been cleaned off with great care, and everything greased and lubed, this engine just purred!
And yes, the engine does run on compressed air! So we can run periodically and keep innards oiled.
