Filmed at the Herreshoff Marine Museum on May 11, 1993

Presented by Sonny Hodgdon and Lloyd Bergeson

May 11, 1993

Watch Lloyd Bergeson and Sonny Hodgdon discuss the America's Cup half model collection at HMM and the Hodgdon-Herreshoff connection in this lecture, originally recorded at HMM in 1993.

This remarkable collection of half models represents every America's Cup yacht from 1851 through the end of the J-Class era, all carved by Hodgdon to the same scale. The Hodgdon Collection of America's Cup Models are currently on display in the Museum's new exhibit, "Challengers, Defenders & Contenders: The Hodgdon Collection of America’s Cup Models, 1851-1937" located in the America's Cup Hall of Fame at HMM.

George I. "Sonny" Hodgon (1922-1995) was a renowned marine engineer and boatbuilder from East Boothbay, Maine. He was also an accomplished sailor and a significant contributor to the development of marine engineering technology, and was always proud of his family's many connections to the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and the America's Cup.
