Summer Sailing - Seamanship Program

Adult Sailing Program

Learn To Sail: Herreshoff Seamanship Program

"Thank you so much for your hard work this summer and that of your staff. Our daughter had a wonderful time.  She truly enjoyed it.  You guys have lit a spark in her which is wonderful to see.  Thank you"

"Thank you for offering a great program. We look forward to joining you next year."

"Our son attended the Herreshoff Seamanship Program this past summer (for the entire summer) and had an amazing time.  Richard Feeny and his staff made our son's experience safe and fun – he finished the summer with an entire new skill set (sailing, knots, etc) and increased confidence.  As parents, there is not much more we could ask for and that is what caused us to make this contribution."

The IIT program is an intensive program designed to take young sailors from student to instructor during two nine-week summer sessions, developing their abilities to teach, lead, and inspire the next generation of Herreshoff kids.  First year IITs are considered to be students in the sailing school, although at a special rate structure.  First year students will pay full tuition for the first session, one-half tuition for the second session, and no tuition for sessions 3 and 4.
Second year IITs pay no tuition and are compensated at the non-profit minimum wage (currently $5.55 per hour) when they are actually performing teaching duties.  A typical IIT can expect to work and be paid for about four 24-hour weeks over the course of the program.
